Inauguration on June 3 at 1 pm of this year's new commission in the Princess Estelle Sculpture Park!
Past meets present in this year's work, Museum by Monika Sosnowska. The work is inaugurated by HRH Prince Daniel

On June 3 at 1 pm, HRH Prince Daniel will inaugurate the sixth permanent work in Princess Estelle's Sculpture Park. The new sculpture, entitled Museum, is by the Polish artist Monika Sosnowska. The opening ceremony is open to all, and free to attend. Welcome!
Sosnowska is known for her large-scale installations that challenge the boundaries between sculpture and architecture. Her works embody the dialog between the physical space and the emotional experience of it. She often uses traditional building materials such as rebar, concrete or steel beams to create deformed structures that can be perceived as collapsed, unstable or completely collapsed. She often refers to historical buildings and tells stories about changing societies. Through her unique idiom and use of architecture as an artistic material, Sosnowska has established herself as one of the most prominent contemporary artists from Europe.
The inspiration for her work Museum is an art museum intended for Rosendal, initiated by king Karl XIV Johan in the 1830s. Despite ten years of planning, the museum never materialised, but hundreds of marble pieces were ordered and have since been stored in a dark warehouse. Eleven of the original building blocks, almost 200 years old, will see the light of day again when they are integrated into the new concrete elements. Past meets present in a sculpture that lies in the borderland between architecture and art. The sculpture is located at the Rosendal Terrace, where the intended museum was supposed to be.
