Story telling and perspective with parallax
Time
July 5 - August 20, 2023

Museum of Science and Technology
This year's workshop at the Museum of Science and Technology is designed to develop children's creativity and teach them about the sculptures in the park, the techniques they are made with as well as the storytelling in the artistic composition.
We use the parallax effect to explore scale and perspective. In the workshop, children will choose a character to be cut out of wood in our laser cutter. The children draw on the wooden silhouette and come up with a short storyboard for the character. The figure is then placed in front of or between some ready-made backgrounds. When a photo is taken, a visual illusion is created by the fact that the background is far away, while the figure looks close due to the different scales. This is despite the fact that the backgrounds and the figure are very close together in reality. It also becomes a game of 2D and 3D - how can the eye perceive something that is layered in 2D as 3D?
