Documentary Screening and Talk
On 27 October, PREKS and Moderna Museet will host a screening of Thomas Riedelsheimer's documentary film Garden in the Sea, following the creation of Cristina Iglesias' artwork Garden in the Sea, situated off the coast of Mexico.
Through the dedicated efforts of a committed group of people, the islands of the Sea of Cortez in Baja California Sur, Mexico, were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005. The island of Espíritu Santo is particularly remarkable — it was bought back from various owners and donated to the Mexican people for permanent preservation. To celebrate this achievement and highlight humanity's relationship with the sea, artist Cristina Iglesias was invited to create Garden in the Sea: a labyrinthine arrangement of submerged screens designed to encourage the growth of marine life. The documentary follows four years of work on the piece, exploring the beauty of the site and the people behind the project, and reminding us of how precious and fragile our blue planet truly is.
The event will open with an introduction by Iglesias via video link, followed by the screening of the documentary (1h 9 min).
