Alice Aycock was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in 1946. She lives and works in New York. Aycock studied at Douglass College in New Jersey, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1968. She subse- quently moved to New York City and obtained her Master of Arts in 1971 from Hunter College, where she studied under Robert Morris.

Her work has since the beginning of the 1970s been presented in exhibitions around the world, including solo shows at Museum of Modern Art in New York and Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, as well as comprehensive European museum retrospectives. VI and VIII in Kassel and three Venice Biennales. Alice Aycock’s works can be found in the collections of Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Storm King Art Center in New York, the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris, Kunstmuseum Basel, the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C, the Louisiana Museum in Humlebaek, Sprengel Museum in Hannover, the Australian National Gallery, and many others.

Aycock has held several teaching positions at national and international academic institutions. She has received numerous awards, including the Americans for the Arts Public Art Award, the Anonymous Was a Woman Award, the International Association of Art Critics Award and the Lifetime Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award from the International Sculpture Center.
